CAPTAIN'S BIO
Captain Abraham Apilado Jr also lovingly known by everyone as Aba-G, is a 3rd generation fisherman. Born and raised in the small town of Kekaha on the Westside of Kaua'i. Ask anyone who knows him. Fishing is life! His earliest memories of fishing started off like most Kekaha kids, catching tilapia and catfish from the sugar cane irrigation ditches. He spent every opportunity he could with a fishing pole and learned a lot from the men in his family. Fishing Waimea River with his Uncle Patrick, shoreline fishing with his Papa, and deep-sea fishing with his father Abraham Apilado Sr. who was a huge influence on the type of fisherman he'd grow up to be. His dad was a full-time commercial fisherman that specialized in Bottom fishing and was considered one of the best on Kaua'i especially known for catching the prized Hawaiian Red Snapper. By the age of five Abraham Jr. was already going out to Sea. With his dad's guidance, he was running his own bottom fishing station on his father's boat by himself. At the age of 10 he was setting the anchor, tying hooks and fishing rigs, as well as learning how to properly take care of the fish after it was caught. At the age of 11 Captain Abe lost his dad to Cancer. Though his father figure and fishing mentor was gone, his death became a driving motivation to one day pass his father's legacy down and own his own boat doing what his father did. At the age of 27 he had a chance to run his own vessel and became a full-time commercial fisherman for six years. Eventually transitioning to a Charter Fishing Captain. The years spent on the ocean allowed him to hone his skills on multiple fishing styles. Including Trolling, Green Stick fishing, Deep bottom and Shallow bottom fishing. Targeting bottom fish was always special for him because it reminded him of fishing with his dad. Which became a motivating factor in deciding what kind of charter would be the primary focus of this business. As a way to honor his father the company is named after Abraham Sr's boat, Ehukai. The red in our logo represents the Hawaiian Red Snapper that his dad was especially known for catching.
Fishing is very special to Abe, and he demonstrates his passion every time he leaves that dock. Years of hard-earned fishing knowledge combined with the "local style" Hawaiian hospitality is what makes our company. We hope to be able to share this experience with you. |
